Emotional Regulation
Self-regulation is a person’s ability to adjust and control their energy level, emotions, behaviours and attention. Clients can work on strategies to manage emotions more effectively, such as reducing anxiety, anger, or impulsivity and increasing emotional resilience and coping skills.

Flexibility & Adaptability
Behaviour therapists may focus on improving the child's ability to cope with changes in routine, transition between activities, and tolerate unexpected events or sensory stimuli. Behaviour consultants can support families in using strategies to reduce anxiety in these events.

Personal Growth
Behaviour therapists can work on goals that may involve enhancing self-awareness, self-esteem, resilience, and overall well-being, fostering personal growth and a sense of fulfilment and purpose in life.

Safety Skills
Behaviour consultants often incorporate safety goals into intervention plans for children with autism, and those with similar challenges, to help them learn how to navigate their surroundings safely. This can include stranger danger, road and car safety, and fire safety.
Behaviour Management
Consultants can focus on interventions that decrease behaviours such as tantrums, aggression, self-injury, or repetitive behaviours, and implement strategies to manage and cope with sensory sensitivities or overstimulation. Our behaviour therapists use the PEA/PEO model to consider behaviours from a holistic perspective.
Social Communication
Social goals can be targeted that focus on skills that will help enhance the individual's ability to initiate and maintain social interactions, understand social cues, take turns, share, and develop friendships. Social communication can be addressed with your behaviour therapist alongside OT or SLP through neurodiversity affirming strategies!
Play Skills
Goals involving play may include engaging the child in imaginative play, participating in group activities, supporting them in shared interests with peers, and enjoying recreational activities independently or with others. Our behaviour therapists ensure that they are introducing play skills at the child's pace, and including the child's interests in play by using strategies such as following their lead.
AAC
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) refers to non-verbal communication. This can be "low-tech" using paper materials and pointing or "high-tech" using a device such as an iPad. We support individuals who are beginning to explore AAC options as well as continuing to learn about their device.
